On April 8, 2015, Walton County homeowners Tammy and Lionel Alford sued to uphold the Walton County White Sand Protection Zone Ordinance and private property rights. The couple’s suit seeks a declaratory judgment that a controversial beach nourishment project would violate the White Sand Protection Zone Ordinance by placing off-color, shell-laden sand on the County’s famous white beaches, and ultimately seeks to halt the project. Walton Beach Nourishment, a coalition that opposes the project, is supporting the homeowners’ lawsuit. Hopping Green & Sams (HGS) attorney D. Kent Safriet is representing the homeowners and is a spokesperson for Walton Beach Nourishment.
