Hopping Green & Sams (HGS) attorneys Erin Coburn, Thomas Philpot, and Sarah Sandy will preside over proceedings of the Leon County Teen Court during the Teen Court’s upcoming July – December 2014 calendar. Erin, Thomas, and Sarah’s service as volunteer judges continues the firm’s longstanding support of and participation in Leon County Teen Court.
“Teen Court exposes young offenders and student advocates alike to fundamental values of our legal system—candor, fairness, integrity, accountability—in a setting that helps instill confidence and incite a curiosity for the rule of law,” said Thomas. “These are principles we promote in our own core values at HGS, and we are honored to serve a small role in supporting this initiative to equip teens with tools for success in their neighborhoods, in their schools, and in the endeavors they may dream to pursue.”
The Leon County Teen Court is a non-judicial diversion program that hears cases of first time, non-violent offenders, both misdemeanor and felony. The program strives to help juvenile offenders take responsibility for their actions, increase awareness of the law, and promote community involvement by providing volunteer opportunities to both youth and adults. Hearings are held weekly on Tuesday evenings at the Traffic Court Annex on Thomasville Road. For more information or to volunteer, contact Teen Court Director Quenita White at (850) 577-4467.
