On December 11, 2014, Governor Rick Scott appointed Jonathan (Jon) Steverson as the secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), effective December 29.  Previously, Steverson served as the executive director of the Northwest Florida Water Management District, a DEP attorney, and an environmental policy coordinator in the Executive Office of the Governor.  While at DEP, Steverson served as special counsel on policy and legislative affairs, as well as acting deputy secretary for water policy and ecosystem restoration.

Steverson replaces interim secretary Clifford Wilson III, who took the post following Herschel Vinyard’s retirement on December 1, 2014.
