The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has made available for review and comment Species Action Plans on 23 of the 61 species to be
included in a management plan. Species Action Plans on the remaining species are anticipated to be released later this spring. The Species Action Plans are the first step in drafting a management plan for Florida’s imperiled species. All 61 species were included in Biological Status Reviews previously. After the Species Action Plans are created for all species (divided into three groups), conservation strategies for the species will be drafted, then a management plan covering all 61 species will be created.
Even for species that are proposed to be delisted, the final management plan to be adopted by FWC may have management implications for landowners and regulated entities throughout Florida. FWC is seeking input from stakeholders during the process. The list of species and draft Species Action Plans are available at here and comments are requested by March 13, 2013.
