The Florida Legislature passed a Senate Environmental Preservation Committee bill, CS/SB 1808, which embodies the agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) over the standards for protective ambient levels of nutrients in state surface waters. Among other things, the legislation requires DEP to adopt numeric nutrient criteria for remaining estuaries and coastal waters by December 1, 2014, and sets the interim criteria for these waters as their unimpaired condition.
