Factory Going Brownfield

Posted Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

HGS Shareholder Ralph DeMeo made a presentation on Florida Brownfields Redevelopment Law before the City of Bartow Commission on March 5, 2012. Ralph has represented the City of Bartow on environmental and land use matters for several years.

The City acquired a property known as the Thompson Cigar Factory in downtown Bartow at the end of 2011 from Polk County. As part of the acquisition, upon Ralph’s recommendation the City agreed to utilize the Florida Brownfields process to address environmental conditions on the site and to enable the site to be returned to beneficial public and economic use.

Following Ralph’s presentation, he answered questions from the Commission, City Manager and City Attorney on the Brownfields laws. The City Commission unanimously approved moving forward with utilizing the Brownfields process for the Cigar Factory.
