EPA Seeks Comments in Advance of Information Collection Request on Solid Waste Disposal Facilities and Practices

Posted Friday, January 18th, 2013

On January 4, 2013, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published notice seeking comments on aspects of a proposed future information collection request (ICR) that will apply to new municipal solid waste landfills (MSWLFs), existing MSWLFs, and lateral expansions of existing MSWLFs.  78 Fed. Reg. 718.  Information collected through the ICR will be used to confirm whether regulated facilities are complying with the current recordkeeping and reporting requirements of 40 C.F.R. § 258.29.  Under these requirements, owners or operators must retain operating records including information such as inspection records, monitoring and testing data, cost estimates, and closure care plans.  In the current action, EPA is soliciting comments to determine whether the proposed ICR is necessary, evaluate its estimate of the burden posed by the proposed ICR, and assess means to minimize the burdened on respondents.  Comments on the proposed information collection are due on or before March 5, 2013.
