EPA Publishes Proposed 2012 Fine Particulate Matter Air Quality Rule

Posted Tuesday, March 24th, 2015

On March 23, 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a proposed rule implementing the 2012 fine particulate matter (PM2.5) national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). As previously reported by HGS, the proposal addresses how states containing nonattainment areas can satisfy the various state implementation plan requirements and revokes the 1997 PM2.5 primary annual standard. Although EPA recently deferred making final area designations for the 2012 PM2.5 primary NAAQS in Florida, no nonattainment areas are expected.

Comments on the proposed rule are due May 22, 2015.
