Habitat for Humanity provides decent, affordable homes for low-income families. From monetary donations and sponsorships to volunteering at home builds and participation on the Board of the organization, HGS has a long history of involvement with the Big Bend Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Most recently, in the fall of 2011, HGS elevated its participation in this worthwhile organization by foregoing a traditional firm retreat and instead using those funds to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity Home Build. The event included members of the firm and their families donating over 750 hours of service on nine work days, as well as strong participation by students from the FSU College of Law, Boy Scout Troop 16, and other members of the local community. HGS not only sponsored and constructed the home—we took the time to get to know the family by working with them week by week as their dream of homeownership finally took shape and became a reality.
